Paul Edward Goldschmidt(born September 10, 1987), nicknamed "Goldy", is an Americanprofessional baseballfirst basemanfor theSt. Louis CardinalsofMajor League Baseball(MLB). He made his MLB debut with theArizona Diamondbacksin 2011.
Lightly recruited out ofThe Woodlands High School, Goldschmidt played for theTexas State Bobcatsand was selected by the Diamondbacks in the eighth round of the2009 MLB draft. He rose through the minor leagues, reaching the major leagues in 2011. The Diamondbacks traded him to the Cardinals during the 2018–19 offseason.
Goldschmidt is a six-timeMLB All-Star. He led theNational Leagueinhome runsandruns batted induring the 2013 season. He has won theNational League(NL)Hank Aaron Award,Gold Glove Award, andSilver Slugger Award. Goldschmidt has twice finished runner-up for the NLMajor League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award, in 2013 and 2015.
